There were upsets...and I am upset

Lets get right to it,

Saturday Night the Dallas Cowboys beat the (13-0) New Orleans Saints...in the Superdome!!! WHAT?!...I typed it and still do not believe it, but for Bob I will say it...HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!..24-17 was the final score, and this game was important for more than one reason.. Now the Cowboys control their own playoff destiny, and the finally won a game in December... Drew Brees and the Saints did a great job bringing that once ravaged city together, and made believers out of a couple million people. Now that they don't have the pressure of "perfection" on their backs, or the irritating voice of Mercury Morris in their heads the Saints will now be more dangerous than ever before...But let's not take anything away from Genius Wade Phillips (sarcasm i promise) as he is the first coach to hand the saints defeat, now all they have to do is be consistent and keep winning...

Now onto the Patriots...this team..who i picked to be in the Superbowl, still finds a way to make me nervous every week...and they played the BILLS!!! Sure Randy Moss had a touchdown and a decent game (5rec 70yds) but this defense still let up points to the BILLS!..I am as optimistic as they come, but the Patriots need an Extreme Road Makeover if they want to be in Florida for the big game...Yes they won, and sure they even won on the road which brings their season total to....uh...oh yeah 2!!!..and just so you know the first one was against the Buc's so it doesn't count...All I'm saying is that i would like to see some defensive improvement before this team gets into the playoffs and gives me a massive coronary heart attack..So in a perfect world it would be Pat's-Vik's in the Superbowl, but New England squad needs to step it up big time....

more tomorrow....

THATS A WRAP!

Long time

Sorry Guys,

I know its been a long time since this has been updated, but now that Christmas break is here more updates should be coming.

First, I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the Henry family. It was a tragic turn of events that took the life of 26 year old Chris Henry. Although he was known in his early NFL days as a "trouble maker", he had seemed to turn his life around....and then this happened.

Keeping in the NFL,

The undefeated New Orleans Saints face their last "real" challenge of the season this Saturday, as the Dallas Cowboys roll into town. The 'Boys have lost two in a row, and are a dismal 6-10 in December under Tony Romo. I am going to take the easy choice here and pick the Saints to beat the Cowboys, although i would not be surprised if Dallas did pull off the upset.

The Indianapolis Colts take on a wild card hopeful Jaguars sitting at (7-6). The Colts handed the 'Jags their first loss of the season back in week one, in a very close game, but the outcome will be different tonight. Head coach Jim Caldwell has already said that he would play to win this game...without any player that is banged up..So yes, Manning will start, but for how long? And what weapons will he have on the field....On the other side of the ball the Jaguars and Maurice Jones Drew will be playing harder, and more in your face football, and will win this game 21-17.

The Minnesota "Bret-Petersons" will have no problem demolishing the limping Carolina Panthers. The score of that game will roughly be 35-14, and look for Adrian Peterson to continue his rushing attack from last game.

Finishing the picks up with the hometown team, the New England Patriots SHOULD make quick work of the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have a decent rushing/passing attack with the re-emergence of T.O, but Brady, Welker, and more importantly Moss should have no problem. Randy will get back to his ways, with a 100yd game and a touchdown.Score 34-17.

Moving onto Baseball....

Cliff Lee to Seattle, Halliday to Philly, and Lackey and Cameron to Boston...and that is just the LAST 4 DAYS!!!

Many people around Boston (including me) thought that this would be a rebuilding year for the 'Sox, but with the recent moves we have told the Yankees that we will not go quietly. Bob or myself will update tomorrow..

but for now.....THATS A WRAP..

Colts/Pats...Week 10

Ladies/Gentleman,

This week we have the closest thing to the Superbowl until...well the Superbowl ...The 6-2 New England Patriots march into Lucas Oil Stadium and take on the undefeated (8-0) Indianapolis Colts. Peyton vs Tom has become the best match up in football over the last eight years, and this year will be no exception. Both quarterbacks walk into this game with 16tds and 5ints each..the argument could be made that Manning is doing more with less, but still these two incredible quarterbacks get to show the national audience what they are capable of. This game will more than likely determine the best two teams in the AFC, and i look for the pats to beat the colts 27-24.

WEEK 10: Sorry I did not post sooner and missed the Bears/49ers game, although i was not surprised with the outcome.."Da Bears..." seem to have lost their way and are close to kissing their season goodbye.

Falcons/Panthers: Big divisional game in the NFC South, but Matty Ice and the falcons will have no problem moving past Jake "day light come and you gotta Delhomme" as the Carolina QB will probably do what he does best and throw interceptions. The one factor the Falcons will have to look out for is the rushing tandem of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart as they have over 1,00yds rushing and have 11tds. Falcons 34-21 ...sorry Panther fans.

Bucs/Dolphins: Even though the Buccaneers were able to beat the packers 38-28 in what Jared called the "battle of the bays" their winning streak ends tomorrow. The dolphins are the best 3-5 team in the league and gave the patriots a run for their money last week. Ricky Williams, Pat White, and Ronnie Brown will be too much for Tampa bays defense to handle. 17-10 Dolphins.

Lions/Vikings: Vikings 45-10...Adrian Peterson may run for 200yds or Favre may throw for 400, or both..the lions are that bad...better luck next week.

Jaguars/Jets: The Jacksonville Maurice Jones Drew's will walk into the swamps of jersey and beat the J-E-T-S tomorrow. I do think that Mark Sanchez will be a great quarterback in the National Football League, but he will continue to struggle this week against a very underrated Jaguar team. This will be a close one however with Jacksonville winning 28-21.

Bengals/Steelers: This game could very well determine the winner of the AFC North with both teams at 6-2 on the season. The Steelers have won 5 straight and will not stop this week. The Bengals have a lot to be proud of this season, as their defense has become of the stingiest in the league. I think Mendenhall will have a big day, but look for the team of Big Ben & Holmes to keep hooking up after a very productive game last week in Denver. 21-17 Steelers.

Saints/Rams: As I said stranger things have happened in the NFL, but i would be a moron to bet against the New Orleans Saints. 48-10 Saints.

Bills/Titans: I know I said on the show last week that i thought the Bills would win this game, but i have to say if i was forced to choose i would take the Titans in this game. Vince Young's crew is touting a short 2 game winning streak, and after Sunday it will be a 3 game winning streak. Titans 13-6.

Broncos/Redskins: Broncos will beat the Redskins, its just a question of how badly. After being handed their second loss of the year Monday, the Broncos will crush the Redskins 35-7.

Chiefs/Raiders: Another stellar game....well if i was forced to pick a winner between these two horrible teams, it would have to be the KC Chiefs. Matt Cassel SHOULD be able to manufacture three or four touchdowns against the high school defense of Oakland. Final score will be 35-13 KC.

Seahawks/Cardinals: After the offensive show that Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald put on last week against the Bears on the road I think beating the Seahawks at home will be a much easier task. I think Fitzgerald and will have an even bigger game than last week (and i kind of hope so, because i need to win Fantasy Football). Look for the score to be somewhere in the 38-17 range for the Card's.

Cowboys/Packers: After last weeks embarrassing loss to the Buccaneers things will only get tougher for the Cheese in Green Bay. Tony Romo is playing great football and Mile Austin was pretty silent last week with only one catch for a touchdown, but that will change this week. Austin will reach the 100yd mark again this week and look for Roy Williams to be heavily targeted as well. 27-17 Cowboys.

Eagles/Chargers: Last week the Chargers were able to beat the "GGGGGGG---MEN" 21-20 and hand the Giants from New York their fourth loss in a row. I'm sorry to say but this weeks NFC East squad is much better and will prevail over the chargers. This will be a battle of star wide receivers (DeShawn Jackson and Vincent Jackson)..but look for Philly's version to have the upper hand. This will be another close one, but an offensive show to say the least...Eagles 41-35.

Ravens/Browns: Ravens....seriously...ok maybe the browns COULD have a chance i suppose...but its gonna be a beat down 34-6 Ravens.

***Don't forget to listen tomorrow night from 6-7pm on www.power883.org.

There you go folks...THATS A WRAP....

Celtics/Bruins/Red Sox

Hello Boys and Girls,

Lets get right to the action:

Celitcs: Time to start freaking out people...the Celtics lost a game!!! oh no..what should we do?!?! No, I am not being serious; yes they lost, but there is no need to panic..it was going to happen eventually. The Suns came into the TD Bank(no longer north) Garden and simply out played the Celtics last night. When the captain Paul Pierce says they lost because the other team made shots and they didn't, you get the simplicity of the situation. The Celtics did have some bright spots in this 110-103 loss, like Kevin Garnett scoring 26pts against a very good Suns team, or Rajon Rondo with a double-double at 14pts and 11assists. Yes beantown fans they did lose, but there is no need to panic and I do believe that the C's will make up for it tonight when they travel down to New Jersey to square off against the 0-6 New Jersey Nets. Game time is set for 7:30pm.a

Bruins: Tonight the Boston Bruins look to get back to the .500 mark as they take on the Sabres at the Garden. The Bruins who are 6-7-2 (14pts) are taking on Northeast Division leading 9-3-1 (19pts) Buffalo squad in what looks to be a tough task for the B's. The bruins are looking to put the 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal in the distant past. That game saw the B's held to a shutout for the first 59:08 of the game before the score was tied up by Patrice Bergeron . Things were looking up at this point, but the B's would fall to Montreal in the shootout. In the 700th game between the two, fans were left with an exciting game. I think the B's will play their hearts out tonight, but may fall short to a much better Buffalo team, do not give up on the Bruins however, as i still see them as a possible 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Red Sox: Beloved batter and soon to be very wealthy outfielder Jason Bay has filed for free agency. This comes as no surprise to Red Sox Nation, and hopefully we will see Mr. Eh-Bay-Bay back in a Sox uniform next spring. Bobby will be posting more on the Sox in the coming hours....

Until then...That's a Wrap!!

NFL Week 9

OK so after the great week of football last week, there has been demand for me to make picks for each NFL week..so i will try and do that.

Redskins @ Falcons: I'm taking the Falcons in this game. Last week against the Saints was the first time that Michael Turner has rushed for over 100 yards and the Falcons lost...That's incredible and nothing against the mighty redskins, but their defense is not as good as the Saints. Falcons win this game 35-3.

Cardinals @ Bears: Even though the Cards' lost to the Panthers last week (34-21), I think that Kurt Warner and Arizona's high-powered offense will walk out of Soldiers Field with a victory. Larry Fitzgerald has had a very quiet, yet productive year so far but this will be his breakout game. This game will be a shootout however, as Jay Cutler and his "John Elway" like arm will be looking to make a statement in the NFC North. Look for a 38-35 game.

Texans @ Colts: This will be my surprise pick of the week, because i believe that the Houston Texans will march into Indianapolis and steal a victory from the Colts. The Texans who are 5-3 for the first time in their short history have been a team that was one or two players away from a playoff bound team...well with the great play from Matt Schaub and the return of Andre Johnson i think this is finally the year. 28-24 Texans.

Chiefs @ Jaguars: The outcome of this game will depend on the play of Maurice-Jones-Drew and Dwayne Bowe; if either of these players has a breakout game their team will win. I do however think it will be the Jag's because of the way MJD has been playing this season, and his game doesn't depend on the performance of the Quarterback. Matt Cassell will struggle again this game, so its going to be the Jags 14-10.

Packers @ Buccaneers: Packers 35-10...enough said.

Panthers @ Saints: The New Orleans Saints will most likely go 15-1 or even 16-0 with the easiest second half schedule in all of the league, and trust me folks this will not be the one loss. No disrespect to the Panthers, I mean they did just defeat a very good Arizona team, but this will not be the week to bet on the panthers. Look for a 42-17 Saints win.

Lions @ Seahawks:
Quite possibly the least interesting match-up of the week, the lions will win this game leaving the Seahawks "sleepless in Seattle". Seattle is an average team at 100%, but with Hasselback battling a rib injury and their running backs moving slower than me on the field, i think the lions will be able to hold off the Seattle Squad. Calvin Johnson may or may not play, but Kevin Smith will play a huge role in the 14-10 win.

Chargers @ Giants: This is a huge week for the G-men after losing three straight games. The lightning bolts in the midst of a two game winning streak though, so something has to give. In this game i believe that Eli will revert back to his "Manning" ways with 3TD's. Look for the team of Manning and Smith to reemerge and the defense to show up again for the first time in a month. 28-21 Giants.

Titans @ 49ers: Alex Smith, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore could beat the entire Titans team by themselves. Now i know that Tennessee has snagged their first victory of the year, and maybe Vince Young can turn this 2-14 bound train around, but not in this game. The titans defense is one of the worst that i have ever seen, so this game will be 17-7 in favor of the 49ers.

Cowboys @ Eagles: DeShawn Jackson is playing so much better than anyone could have imagined, and has more than made up for the lack of production from Brian Westbrook. The Dallas Cowboys are riding a three game winning streak and will look to pick up their first division win of the season, but i do not think this will be the week for that. Don't get me wrong Romo is playing great and Miles Austin is having a break out season, but the Philly defense is playing spectacular and will be the reason they take the 'Boys down this week. 24-17 Eagles

Ravens @ Bengals: The Bengals are in a 1st place tie in the AFC North Division at 5-2 and Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson ( I refuse to call him the other name) are playing their best football in years. The Baltimore Ravens with Joe Flacco and Ray Rice, are also having a good season at 4-3 and will bring a great defense to their game in Ohio, but i still think the Bengals have the edge in this one and have them winning 13-10.

Steelers @ Broncos: The Steelers will climb up to the mile high city and beat the Denver Squad, straight up. Big Ben has already matched some totals from last year and is great pickup for any fantasy owner out there. Take nothing away from Denver because they are having a great year, but i think the Steel Curtain will be too much for them. 34-21 Steelers.

Dolphins @ Patriots: After the bye week Randy Moss will be back to 100% and this means he will be spreading the Dolphins defense apart. Brady did play great in his last two outings, but to be fair he was going against high-school squads. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams will test a Jarvis Green-less defensive line, but i think the Pats will be able to squeak by the 'Phins. 24-21 Patriots...

and on a side note...the Yankees just won their 27th world series by defeating the Phillies 7-3 in game six....I called it!!!..still not happy with it at all!!.....

Til next time folks....That's a WRAP!!

Celtics

So the Boston Celtics season has begun, and what a statement on opening night. The Cleveland Cavaliers who dominated their opponents at home last year looked to do the same this year, but the Celtics has other plans. Paul Pierce posted 23pts and 11 rebounds, but the talk of the night was about the returning all-star Kevin Garnett who showed no rust putting up 13pts and 10 rebounds in just over thirty-three minutes of play. Although the dynamic duo of Shaq & Lebron received much media attention over the last few months the Cav's fell short against a much improved Celtics team.

Game 2: Alright now i do not mean to sound like this game wasn't important..or maybe i do, but the bobcats?? come on...When the biggest thing coming out of training camp is the signing of the "great" Larry brown you can bet that you had a bad off season....and not to mention the fact that you traded away your first ever draft pick for Tyson chandler..which is not a bad pick..but Larry brown really? OK, so now for the actual game..although it wasn't much of a competition.. The C's held the Bobcats to 59 pts...yes i said 59, and before you ask no this is not the WNBA...4 out of the 5 starters had at least ten points and the list could go on and on..The bobcats have been able to beat the Celtics before, but that was not the case this time.

Game 3: The Chicago Bulls will make their way into the Garden on Friday night with one goal in mind....revenge. We all remember the amazing seven game series last year in the first round of the playoffs that showcased two of the soon to be best point guards in the NBA Derrick Rose, and Rajon Rondo. Tonight will be a combination of that seven game series in one forty-eight minute game. This is another huge test for the Celtics, yes KG is back, but the Bulls have so much to prove in this game. I look for the final score of this game to be in the area of 93-90 Celtics. This will be a game that Mr. Wallace will undoubtedly need to step his game up. This will be the premiere match-up of the early NBA season, and maybe a preview of the Eastern Conference Championship round....

Alright guys hope you enjoy this blog..until next time THAT'S A WRAP!!!

Welcome

Welcome ladies and gents to the official blog of The Sunday Night SportsWrap. The SportsWrap is a weekly sports talk show on Power 88.3 FM Franklin, Ma. You can also hear us every Sunday night from 6-7pm on www.power883.org. On this blog we will talk about everything from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and NCAA sports.

Through the first seven weeks of the football season the New England Patriots have a 5-2 record and have outscore their opponents by 121 points. Granted the majority of those points came on behalf of the pathetic Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Still, I think that the Pats have the upper hand in a uncharacteristically bad AFC-East division. Are the Patriots Superbowl bound? I don't have the answer, but i will say that it would be unwise to bet against the tandem of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady in the months of December and January....Speaking of great quarterbacks, i think it is incredible that Brett Favre has been able to play the toughest position in professional sports at such a high level this late in his career. Brady-Favre Superbowl? lets wait and see.....That's all for now guys ...remember every Sunday night from 6-7pm on www.power883.org
